This substitute teacher training course (Effective Teacher Training) is a course recommended for teaching and substituting in many NC school systems and is required for substituting in Buncombe County and Asheville City schools. Please check with the school system in which you want to work to determine their requirements.
During these classes you will explore the legal and ethical considerations involving substitute teaching, policy and procedures (from Harry Wong's First Day of School), age appropriate instruction strategies, behavioral management techniques, and much more.
Each session includes on-line and on-campus components. Classes will meet for three Saturdays on UNC Asheville's campus and will also include on-line discussion and coursework. Students who succesfully complete the course will receive the substitute teacher training certificate and 3 CEUs (Continuing Education Units).
The cost for each session is $95.00. The required textbook is Substitute Teacher Handbook, K-12, Ninth Edition, available in the UNC Asheville bookstore.
Prerequisite: high school diploma or GED.
All classes meet on the UNC Asheville campus. Classroom locations, parking information, and a campus map will be sent with your receipt and confirmation packet.

- Session II: May 14, 21, 28, June 4
- Session III: August 20, August 27, September 10
- Session IV: October 22, October 29, November 12
